When Finnish industrialist Yjro Lakkonnen wanted to develop his 10,000-hectare property just north of Helsinki, he turned to Tom McBroom over some esteemed competition (including Robert Trent Jones Jr., Arthur Hills and Michael Hurdzan) to create a 54-hole golf complex that would become the premier golf destination in Scandinavia. The geographical location for North West was very reminiscent of Ontario's Muskoka region where McBroom has established himself as the world leader in dealing with rugged terrain. McBroom's familiarity and comfort with deep forest, heaving topography, rocky outcroppings and wetlands allowed him to create another signature masterpiece. As word spreads, Kytäjä's stature as a golf destination grows and grows.
